Manufacturing ISAC Contributes to World Economic Forum Cybersecurity Playbook

Fairfax, VA – May 2, 2024 – The World Economic Forum’s latest initiative, Building a Culture of Cyber Resilience in Manufacturing, is a vital playbook developed in collaboration with key industry leaders, including Manufacturing ISAC, a subsidiary of Global Resilience Federation (GRF). The playbook arrives at a critical time, as the manufacturing sector confronts the challenges of digital transformation and increasing cyber threats.

The playbook outlines a framework for manufacturing companies to strengthen cyber defenses, focusing on three guiding principles essential for sustainable cyber resilience:

  • Making Cyber Resilience a Business Imperative

  • Driving Cyber Resilience by Design

  • Engaging and Managing the Ecosystem

Emphasizing the timeliness and importance of these measures, GRF and Manufacturing ISAC CEO Mark Orsi said, “The manufacturing sector’s reliance on Operational Technology, alongside the explosive growth of IoT, presents unique challenges and vulnerabilities. Manufacturing operations are very sensitive to disruptions, which can have extensive downstream impacts. Because of this, manufacturers are prime targets for ransomware and other threats.”

The playbook encourages organizations to adopt these principles and cultivate robust defenses as we advance into the next era of manufacturing.

“Our contribution to the World Economic Forum’s initiative underscores our commitment to safeguarding operations and ensuring the long-term security of the manufacturing sector globally. Embedding these principles deeply within the organizational culture and throughout the supply chain is essential for maintaining a safe and resilient operational environment.”

About MFG-ISAC

Manufacturing Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MFG-ISAC) is a nonprofit cybersecurity threat awareness and mitigation community for small, medium and enterprise-level manufacturers. The MFG-ISAC team uses open source and proprietary intelligence to warn member companies of cyberthreats and provides suggested tools and methods for prevention, remediation or recovery. Within the community, member companies share their own indicators and observables, best practices, and advice on dealing with the many challenges the sector faces from malicious cyber activity. With the support and guidance of Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), MFG-ISAC was launched by Global Resilience Federation, a creator and operator of ISACs in multiple sectors.
