GRF Ransomware Report End-of-Year Update 2022

GRF analysts recently completed an end-of-year update of the semiannual ransomware report that tracks attacks based on public sources and conversations of threat actors in closed forums. Analysts compiled data on 947 attacks in the second half of 2022.

Some key findings:

  • 47% of ransomware activity tracked by GRF analysts was directed against companies in the United States

  • Critical manufacturing continued to be the most targeted sector for the year, followed by information technology

  • LockBit 3.0 was the most observed RaaS with 350+ victims, followed by BlackCat

  • There was as surge from Royal and Play by the end of 2022
